Malcolm’s formative years were spent traveling throughout Africa, the Near East, and Asia. In this piece, the graceful and elegant white flowing robes are reminiscent of the images from his time spent overseas. The underlying message is revealed through the use of one of the most basic instruments of spirituality, the drum. It demonstrates that there are many pathways to a personal relationship with God. The mystical image of the spirit drummer uses rhythm as the vibration that resides throughout all cultures as a way to align oneself with the God that lies within us.
